Acid reflux is a complication that occurs because of poor closure of the lower esophageal sphincter. It is present at the union between the abdomen and esophagus. Acid reflux is also famous by the name Gastroesophageal reflux disease ( GERD ). It is a chronic condition where stomach contents rise above into the esophagus. Also, it results in symptoms like a taste of acid in the mouth, heartburn, bad breath, breathing problems.
Why does acid reflux occur?
Acid reflux occurs due to an inappropriate diet and by having frequent spicy food in daily life. An increase in the acidic level of the stomach can also occur in acid reflux. As per the culture and climate of India, Indians are more likely to have spicy food in their day-to-day life. Indian culture is diverse. Also, it has a variety of spices like chili powder, garam masala, black pepper, black salt, etc. All of these spices have the characteristics of being hot by nature. Also, it contains the tendency of being spicy on its own.
Spices in Indian food
To keep the food free from fungal and bacteria, people add spices in a large proportion to the food. The more the hot climate, the more spice to food for keeping dishes edible without having bacteria on it. As the Indian climate remains usually hot so people are commonly like to have their food a bit spicy than other regions. The spicy food generates an acidic level in the abdomen.
Taking any Indian dish, for example, paneer butter masala, which contains most of the hot spices in it. Also, it is loaded with butter and essential oils. It has pros of having a mouthwatering taste but cons of it are the use of excess spices. Therefore, the human body is not that habituated to sustain that spice inside the body which leads to acid reflux.
Eating less acidic and more alkaline food prevents the abdomen from having an acidic sensation. Alkaline food includes most of the green vegetables like spinach, coriander, cucumber, carrot, sweet potato, etc. Some of the fruits also help to prevent acid reflux. Bananas, apples, watermelons, pomegranates, and figs are most useful in acid reflux. Strange but accurate, chocolates and coffee also play a role in increasing the acid level in the body for acid reflux.
Healthy Indian food
Indians have a diverse culture with all the spices. There is also healthy food having the smallest amount of spice in a dish. However, it seems delightful for taste buds and friendly towards the abdomen. Having green vegetables and dry fruits helps in neutralizing the acid and base level in the abdomen. Some of the Indian dishes having the minimal amount of spices in the procedure of making food are found even more delicious. Also, it is beneficial for health. Dishes like Poha, Uthappam, Upma, Kheer, etc., are beneficial in keeping the abdomen’s acid level in its range. Apart from food, even drinking more and more water will also help in keeping the gut happy.
Butter chicken is a dish full of protein and carbohydrates at a huge amount. Also, it has varieties of spices for making the authentic butter chicken dish. It is a healthy dish from which the body can be fulfilled by all the necessary nutrients needed for sustaining a healthy life. Having spices and calories in a large amount also sometimes has its disadvantages. Holding the taste within also holds the calories and hot spices that can affect acid reflux. Also, having this amount of protein on a daily basis can also show reflux from excessive carbohydrates and protein which lead to obesity.
Our lifestyle has been in a way which is likely to take a break for evening snacks which is also worrying, as the body can consider food after a certain time period as excessive material and puts it into the category of extra fat and that leads to obesity. So most of the doctors prefer not to have the full amount found at night time. Kids are energetic and so they burn calories and are likely to gain more food than on a regular basis, so evening snacks for them have become mandatory to have to keep up their energy in their offspring. So having boil, or less spicy food seems fine for kids to have rather than having deep fried. Unless the energy and calorie intake sources are less than spent on daily lifestyle, it is normal to have evening snacks with healthy ingredients.
People consider healthy Indian food to be more oily, but few of the dishes seem more impactful towards diet having the perfect balance between the mixture of spices and calories. Talking about breakfast in Indian culture, South Indians are more likely to have dosa for their breakfast on their daily basis. In some of the regions, Indian morning breakfast starts with roti and tea, sometimes it ends up having deep-fried dishes like Samosa, Fafda, etc. Indian food is usually filled with spices and used under a large amount of oil and butter. Though having this side of Indian food, there is healthy food like Poha, Khakhra, which are used commonly and in the daily life of people.
Rich Indian food
Almonds, Cashew, Pistachio, Lassi, etc., fall under the rich category of Indian food for breakfast. Urad dal, mix dal, dal makhani are some of the curries that slide under the healthiest curries in Indian culture. Dosa, idli, uttapam, appam, are the finest and healthiest snacks of south Indians. Mostly the south Indian food is cooked in coconut oil which is good for the health to keep intact. Most of the south Indian food uses less oil and butter, it seems pretty delightful to tummy and taste that makes heart-healthy and prevents the body from having acid reflux. Even though Indian food has spiciness in it, it manages by greeting the delightful sweet dishes like Gulab jamun, mishti doi, and many more.
